Check out these inventive dried potato rings from Julie Usel. I don’t really know how long something like this would last but given it’s almost Halloween, I can’t help but think this would be a great project to make with older kiddos who can handle a craft knife. Think wearable jack-o-lanterns or creepy shrunken heads!

Are there any instructions or tutorials out there for this? I have read about making beads but was wondering if there are any tricks or “rules” for rings

Hi Kyla,
I did a quick search for information on Google and came up with some results for potato beads but nothing for rings specifically.
I’m guessing since the potatoes shrink quite a bit, you’d have to make your ring considerably larger. And depending on your design, you might have to increase your drying time. I wonder if putting the potatoes in a very low temp oven would make them dry faster and prevent them from molding? Or maybe a food dehydrator would work better. Let me know how your project turns out!
