Goldsmiths’ Fair ‘09

The Goldsmiths’ Fair in London is starting next week. It will run for two weeks from the 28th of Sept to the 11th of October.

It is a great opportunity to buy jewelry and silver from exciting makers, of course. But it is also an excellent opportunity for us jewelers to meet and talk with the exhibitors. For the most part the jewelers and silversmiths will be in attendance to sell their work and to answer questions. There is usually a wide variety of artists from famous enamelers such as Fred Rich to widely recognized style icons such as Shaun Leane and new up-an-coming young artist sas.

So make sure to take a wonder around the great Goldsmiths’ Hall and meet makers and get inspiration.

Ruth Rae Jewelry Class at ZNE Convenzione

If you are in (or planning to be)Northern California next week, you may want to take a class with Ruth Rae at the ZNE Convenzione. Ruth is teaching “Wind, Coil and Curl” a wirework jewelrymaking class at the event.

Also part of the event is a spectacular vendor fair, on May 2nd & 3rd, from noon to 5pm. Art, Paperie & Pleasantries is held indoors at the Alameda County Fair Grounds in Dublin, CA. You can find more details here. There will be lots of vendors, live music, book signings, make & take classes, coloring table for the kiddies and people selling jewelry supplies and crafts to buy!

Bead Society of Northern California Bead Bazaar

Since I am constantly saying “I have no beads to work with” I went over to Oakland today to shop at the annual Bead Society of Northern California’s beadshow called “Bead Bazaar“.

The “Bead Bazaar” seemed a bit smaller than in the past, but it’s always a good place to buy and today was no exception. I didn’t buy a ton but got some goodies to play with and talk to some people.
From the top: African recycled record beads & chunky coral from my friend Carter at Bead Trust, yummy black tourmaline crystals, fat baroque pearl (a splurge! but I can’t find the receipt to see who the seller is), a few strands of mixed dark pearls, aquamarine nuggets, creamy freshwater pearls, amazonite beads and vintage glass all from Juliets Beads, and last but certainly not least is the colorful bunch of vintage Lucite from Baubles & Beads.

All that lovely Lucite is for a project I am working on and I was THRILLED to find so much at one booth. I hadn’t been to their store in Berkeley, but needless to say I’ll be riding Bart across the bay alot more frequently now!

I also got to chat with Gail Crosman-Moore and see her new stuff. I wanted to find my solid colored beads then shop for myself, so I MEANT to get back and buy from her. But as luck would have it, I got busy talking with others, got super hungry and had to to find a place to eat and then didn’t make it back into the show. I am kicking myself!!! She had some crazy cool metal pieces and beadcaps I was oogling. I didn’t get to buy anything from Greengirl Studios either because the crowd was so big I couldn’t get close enough to look at anything. Thank God, these wonderful bead enablers are all online!

I got this lovely ring as a “party favor” from Miss Chili at Pico & Salsa. They sell alot of beaded jewelry pieces at affordable prices. I’m in love with the coral necklaces they have. I’m going to make it look even more amazing with a huge pendant attached!

There were so many wonderful artisan beadmakers there as well including Grace Lampwork Beads, Jileys, Wild Woods Art Glass, Gail Splavera and many others. The show is one day only, but sign up for the Bead Society newsletter so you don’t miss out next year!

Call for Vendors: Alki Art Fair

My friend lives in the Alki area of Seattle and its beautiful. If you are in the Seattle area this could be a great event for you to vend at.

From their website:

The Alki Art Fair will be held this year on July 25th and 26. Every year people come to the beach to buy hand made local art, listen to great music, and enjoy the wonderful views from Alki beach. Artists and craftsmen vendors interested in exhibiting are being sought at this time.

If you are a new artist interested in having a booth at the 2009 you need to come to one of three registration days (days listed below). Registration is to insure that we have only original hand made art sold at the fair. During the registration; your art work will be viewed (please bring a few representative pieces)and you will also pick out your booth and pay for your space.

Registration Days:
Saturday, May 16th, 10am-2pm
Saturday, June 6th, 10am-2pm
Monday, June 8th, 6:30pm-8pm
