Feeling inspired? Why not submit your latest designs to the “Your Designs Rock” Contest at Rings & Things. You could win in a number of catagories and receive great gift certificates and the possiblity of having your creation featured in their catalgoue. That would be great coverage for any designer.

Remember, your submitions have to be made mostly with products available at Rings & Things.

Boost your inspiration! Start designing now for Rings & Things’ 2010 “Your Designs Rock” Contest! It’s not just a jewelry contest — your entry can be anything, as long as it includes components sold by Rings & Things.

Entries will be accepted January 1 through February 28, 2010, but don’t wait to start designing. Enter by February 5 and we’ll include you in our Early-Bird Raffle for the chance to win a goodie bag! Never entered the contest before? Enter for the first time and we’ll include you in our New-Entrant Raffle for another chance to win a goodie bag!

The five 2010 design contest categories are Glass & Crystal, Gemstones & Pearls, Mostly Metal, Metal Clay and Found Objects/Miscellaneous. Winners will be announced in June.

The 2010 Grand Prize is a $750 Rings & Things credit. Five First-Place Winners (one for each category) will each win a $250 R&T credit. Honorable Mention Winners will receive $75 R&T credits. Plus, winning entries (with credit to the designer) might be featured in Rings & Things’ catalog and promotions, providing exposure to an estimated million people worldwide per year. You can use this for “as seen in” promotions of your own.

Fall Stringing Challange

The Fall Challenge by the Editors of Stringing is to come up with a beaded or wire worked project on the theme “Around the World”

Projects should be photographed and sent to the editors for judging no later than September 7th. All entries will be included on the website and the winners will be published in Stringing. For details, rules etc. click here.

Last Few Days: Earring Swap

Beading Daily is hosting a earring swap, which sounds like fun. It is to celebrate Denise Peck’s new book 101 Wire Earrings.

The basics are: make a pair of earrings and send them in with a self addressed stamped envelope and receive a pair of earrings from another reader. If you are lucky you will receive one of the 5 pairs donated by the author herself. But hurry, all entries must be postmarked by August 31st.

Objects and Elements Reader Challenge

Objects and Elements has put up their first Reader Challenge: Get Closure: Show Us Your Clasps.

Here’s how to participate. You can make your own clasp OR show them how you’ve creatively used an objects and elements closure (as Design Team Member Kristen Robinson did with her bracelet in the photo above).

You then email a web-optimized detail picture of your work to ObjectsandElements@yahoo.com. Include a little bit about your closure and be sure to include any links to your website or blog. For full details, read the blog post here.

Enter the Semiprecious Beads Contest on Beading Daily

Beading Daily has this great contest that is open to everyone, just design a bracelet or necklace using three or more different types of gemstones and your design could be featured on Beading Daily and considered for publication in Step by Step Beads. Deadline to enter is March 31, 2009. Read the Official Rules.

If you need ideas on how to use gemstones, check out the new book, Designing Jewelry with Semiprecious Beads by Kim Gover. (Book Review on Craft Gossip this week!) It’s packed with information on all types of gemstones, including typical colors, popular forms (chips, rounds, etc.), cost, symbolism/healing properties, and suggestions for beads that pair well together.
