I recently read the latest issue of Metal Clay Artist Magazine. This quarterly magazine is celebrating its 2nd year of publication. That this magazine has flourished in the turbulent economic times of the past two years speaks volumes about its quality. One of the many things that makes MCAM stand out from the pack is its production team. Although the quality of this magazine suggests it is another slick publication from a large publisher, it is produced solely by artists who love metal clay and dedicated volunteers. Their passion for the medium shows on every page of the magazine. In the print copy I reviewed, I enjoyed reading an in-depth interview with Dr. Morikawa, lead inventor of PMC and PMC Pro. I learned about the Metal Clay Masters Registry–how and why many artists choose to become credentialed. The MCAM gallery is full of inspiration with full color, crisp images of beautifully crafted metal clay pieces from many artists that help you experience the versatility of the medium visually. There are also five how-to projects to help you learn new techniques with metal clay.
Surrounded by hoards of books and magazines, you may feel you have no room for another subscription. You can still enjoy the knowledge and artists’ insight available in MCAM by subscribing to their electronic publication–all the goodness without any clutter.
