cover art of Gemstone SettingsGemstone Settings: The Jewelry Maker’s Guide to Style & Techniques by Anastasia Young is a great how-to guide for adding a variety of stones to your jewelry work — in everything from metal clay, traditional metals, resin, and even mixed media jewelry creations. Broken into four chapters, the book begins with an introduction to the design process followed with a brief history of gem-set jewelry in chapter one. Next you’ll get a directory of gemstones that will help you pick the perfect stone to make your piece. Then Anastasia will teach you about techniques, safety, and troubleshooting setting errors. Finally, you get a reference section with measurement conversions, hardness and weights of stones, and other helpful information.

Interweave has given me a  copy of this wonderful resource book to share with you, dear readers! For a chance to win this copy, leave a comment telling me your favorite setting technique. The giveaway will end March 3, 2012. Sorry, this giveaway is open to US mailing addresses only.

  24. june s. in ireland on February 19, 2012 1:15 pm

Oh, how I would love, love, love this book! Especially as I use beads and gemstones
in my crafts, this would be a fantastic reference book to have and to use. Like many have commented, I seem to like and prefer bezel settings more than any other technique. But that’s why this book would also be an excellent reference – to try something new and different to my usual, comfortable way of working with gems, cabochons and even with beads. I’m going to enter, and with any luck, I’ll win it. But if not, I may just have
to buy a copy – no matter the cost.

Thanks for this great opportunity to win this brilliant book! – June S. in Ireland

I am a gemstone addict. I cannot resist color. Mostly, I’m obsessed with odd and unlikely-to-see-in-a-setting natural stones. My brain goes into overdrive but the brakes lock-up when I’m faced with the setting. The preview of this book gives me inspiration and hopefully, direction from Anastasia’s unique style.
