Gemstone Settings: The Jewelry Maker’s Guide to Style & Techniques by Anastasia Young is a great how-to guide for adding a variety of stones to your jewelry work — in everything from metal clay, traditional metals, resin, and even mixed media jewelry creations. Broken into four chapters, the book begins with an introduction to the design process followed with a brief history of gem-set jewelry in chapter one. Next you’ll get a directory of gemstones that will help you pick the perfect stone to make your piece. Then Anastasia will teach you about techniques, safety, and troubleshooting setting errors. Finally, you get a reference section with measurement conversions, hardness and weights of stones, and other helpful information.
Interweave has given me a copy of this wonderful resource book to share with you, dear readers! For a chance to win this copy, leave a comment telling me your favorite setting technique. The giveaway will end March 3, 2012. Sorry, this giveaway is open to US mailing addresses only.

I don’t know much about settings, so it would be great to have this book and learn more.
Love bezel settings!
I hope this is the giveaway because I sure can use this book. I made several settings using metal glue and they are still in the settings with a lot of wear. I need that book. Thanks for the giveaway.
I like using prong settings- simple but still elegant and versatile. Having said that… I haven’t had great success with using/ making other types. I’m quite curious about the information on resin settings!
I like the clean look of a bezel setting. But I like how much light gets to a gem in a prong setting. This book looks like it would be very interesting. Thanks for offering this giveaway!
This book looks so interesting! I’m partial to wire wrapping & I would love to learn different techniques!
I like prong settings b/c you get to see more of the stone.

I’d love this book. The setting’s I like all depend on the stone, but I seem to gravitate toward bezel settings. I also like wire wrapped settings. I’d love to learn some new techniques.
I am new at settings, but this book seems a great way to learn!
I am a newbie to jewelry making. I have enrolled for 2 jewelry making classes at Shake Rag Alley in WI and am so excited. This book would be so valuable for a beginner!
Flush setting. I’m not so good at it yet, but I’m totally obsessed with perfecting it at the moment
i have worked mainly with cabachons and so up until now i have mainly used just a quick bezel setting, but i am starting to try different odd shaped pieces which often require a different type of setting….i sure could use this book to teach me some new techniques.

I am just begining to get into gems and other jewery making.I have no favorite yet.But like to get this book to be the frist colection to my other books yet to get.I am very excited to hear of this giveaway.

I am also just beginning and would like this book to help me broaden my horizon! Thanks!
Thank you for offering this book. My sister has just been diagnosed with Lupus and has begun a jewelery hobby to replace her gardening hobby.(Lupus patients have to avoid sunshine) She is very creative and I am sure she would benefit from the new techniques in settings.
This is a great giveaway! So far I have bought several natural stones but have not been able to make use of them for the metal clay pieces. I would love to learn a technique that makes it easy to incorporate them!
I prefer to work with bezel settings, probably because it’s the only way I know how to set! I’d be delighted to win Anastasia’s book to learn to make more beautiful jewelry.
Oh, how I would love, love, love this book! Especially as I use beads and gemstones
in my crafts, this would be a fantastic reference book to have and to use. Like many have commented, I seem to like and prefer bezel settings more than any other technique. But that’s why this book would also be an excellent reference – to try something new and different to my usual, comfortable way of working with gems, cabochons and even with beads. I’m going to enter, and with any luck, I’ll win it. But if not, I may just have
to buy a copy – no matter the cost.
Thanks for this great opportunity to win this brilliant book! – June S. in Ireland
I am just learning settings. My sister is teaching me bezels. This would make a great thank-you for her.
I want to learn more ways to set/use stones

prong settings. Thanks, mamatkins@hotmail.com
I am a gemstone addict. I cannot resist color. Mostly, I’m obsessed with odd and unlikely-to-see-in-a-setting natural stones. My brain goes into overdrive but the brakes lock-up when I’m faced with the setting. The preview of this book gives me inspiration and hopefully, direction from Anastasia’s unique style.

What a great giveaway, I would be so happy to win this book. The bezel setting is my favorite since it allows a secure, durable, SNAG-FREE way to showcase a focal. You never know though, this book could make me fall in love with something new!
I don’t know much about settings, but I want to learn!!! I’ve done some wire wrapping, but that’s about it so far.
So far I’ve just done a bit of wire-wrapping. I’d love to expand my horizons, though.
OMG, How amazing. I can’t sleep to read and made if I’ll win.
I have made a couple of box rings and set a stone in them under tension. It allows the light to pass through and looks like the stone is suspended as if by magic.
I can’t wait to learn some new setting styles and try them out.
I have made a very few bezel settings, but would love to learn how to set a prong setting. Great giveaway–thanks for sharing!

I am a fused glass artist and at the moment my settings are pretty much limited to wire wrapping, firing fine silver into the piece and gluing. I would love to do more and this book seems packed with ideas I had never even heard of. I am interested in seeing how much more I can do without a lot of new equipment, as I don’t have much room and have already taken over the dining room! Thanks.
I have not done jewelry but it keeps calling me, what an interesting looking book
I don’t know much about setting however it is something I really want to learn so this book would be extremely useful!

Thank you for having this giveaway. Good luck to everyone!
My favorite setting technique is the bezel setting. It was the very first setting taught to me in my first jewelry class. It’s the most basic, classic and popular technique to set a cabochon gemstone.
Congratulations Dawn! You are the winner.
I can’t believe I won!!!! I never win anything!! Can’t wait to get this book.
Thank you so much for this wonderful giveaway!
