Silversmithing for Jewelry Makers: A Handbook of Techniques and Surface Treatments by Elizabeth Bone covers everything from basics to tools and beyond to health and safety. Basics include annealing, pickling, soldering, cutting and filing, cold connections, findings and mechanisms, casting and more. As you learn and become more advanced, you’ll appreciate the specialist techniques of married metals, stone setting, working with metal clay, filigree, and granulation. The surface techniques covered are sure to make all your finished pieces more visually interesting. Chasing and respoussé, engraving, etching, and reticulation to name a few are included. Each technique is described and followed with a tutorial for practice.

    I would love to get back into silversmithing. Years ago I had a jewelry studio with my partner but he died unexpectedly and his family got all the equipment and I could never scrape the money together to get back into ot.

    I took silver jewelry making once perhaps 20 years ago and was a complete failure but so was my life at the time. So in a wonderful “place” now and I bet I can do it!

    I’ve always wanted to get more involved with my jewelry making. Wire wrapping can be beautiful, but it only gets you so far.
    Seems like this book would be an amazing starting point to expanding on my jewelry knowledge.

    Soldering always had that spookiness around it, with the gas and the heat and so. Suppose this is just a case of doing it and gaining experience. The book would be a welcome starting point to make a start and learn! Thank you for the chance of winning a copy!
