August 19-21 at Bead Fest Philadelphia, The Portable Playhouse will attempt a Guinness World Record for “Longest Beaded Necklace.” If you aren’t familiar with The Portable Playhouse, they are a nonprofit organization dedicated to DIY jewelry making in pediatric hospitals and women’s cancer centers around the country.
By donating a dollar to the Portable Playhouse, participants will add a bead to the necklace. Participants can also donate beads from their personal stash for the cause.
The necklace is 1,000 feet long; the Portable Playhouse is attempting to break the current record of 1,349 feet and 10 inches. The record-breaking attempt will be held in the Bead Bazaar on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. During the 3 days, beads and finished jewelry from around the globe will be for sale.
If you will be in Philadelphia this weekend, head over to Bead Fest and join the fun!

Oh gosh! I’m so glad I read about this on your site before tomorrow! I live like an hour outside Philly and I’m totally going to attend this! I work at a jewelry site myself (called Ispirada) so it’s always fantastic to hang out with other jewelry fiends. Hehe…I really want to take part in this huge beaded necklace! See you all there…
