Simply Modern Jewelry shows that even a beginner can create beautiful boutique quality jewelry. Geared toward the novice beader, Editor of Stringing magazine, Danielle Fox walks you thru the process of creating your jewelry. The book starts with shopping for beads and supplies, discusses tools you will need, a comprehensive how-to for the techniques used, then onto the 30 stylish projects. The projects are broken down into 5 categories:  Find Your Inspiration; Mix It Up; Play with Symmetry; Experiment with Sizing; and Easy Does It.  There is also an extensive resource section in the back. The projects and instructions will build beginning jewelry makers skills along with confidence. These are simple yet chic jewelry projects people will love to wear.. A few things I really liked about this book are: Ms. Fox encourages the crafter too look around them for inspiration and to use it to personalize their creations. This is something that a lot of books for beginners don’t talk about. I feel encouraging beginners to think creatively while learning will help them grow as artists. The close-up photography clearly illustrates the techniques of jewelry making so you never have to ask yourself “am I doing this properly?†This is important for someone at home doing it alone. Learning how to correctly open jump rings, wire wrap and making loops are basic skills that beginners often have problems with. The book has projects that use quality findings, beads and supplies. Flip through and you will see artist made lamp work beads, sterling silver clasps, vintage crystals, and gold fill wire. Using beautiful supplies make even a simple strung necklace look expensive.Even an experienced beader will find inspiration in the color designs, choice of beads/findings and overall simple chic look of the projects. It’s a lovely book that I highly recommend for anyone who wants to start making jewelry.
