Michaels Dream Tree Challenge

November 13, 2012 by Stacie Hooder

The holiday season is here and I’ve officially begun to think about decorating thanks to Michaels Stores and their Dream Tree Challenge! I was officially invited to participate last week so I grabbed Mom and we headed over to our local Michaels and began to dream about all the possibilities.

My Mtom lookiing at poinsettias

Michaels has so many colors and styles! The ribbons and holiday trim have themes to help you. Designed to coordinate, it will make shopping a breeze. Since jewelry making has a special place in my heart, that will definitely play a part in my Dream Tree plan!

Yesterday as promised, a new pre-lit tree and gift card to decorate it arrived. (I love the holiday-themed candy stripe packing tape on the box. Isn’t that a great touch for holiday packages?)

I enlisted Mom again and we set out to shop for the Dream Tree Challenge. We had a great time shopping due to all the fabulous deals Michaels is offering now. Many of their holiday decorations are on sale now. What’s better than getting something beautiful? Getting it half price! Everywhere are signs for 40, 50, or 60% off! Even the artificial trees are on sale. They have a very good selection of sizes, too. Tree skirts, stockings, ready-made ornaments and, of course, many options for making your own holiday decorations, too!

So many cute holiday figurines!

A line of golden deer peeking over the top shelf.

Mom and I enjoyed shopping for a couple of hours and the staff were all very friendly and helpful – one really sweet employee even brought me a cart because I had filled up the hand basket I was carrying.

Our cashier, Daniesha, let me take her photo. Couldn’t she be a model with her flawless skin? Daniesha was very patient and friendly as she rang up all our purchases and kept a smile throughout  – even on a price check for the one item I managed to find with no tag.

If you are frequent shopper at Michaels Stores like me then you are already familiar with all the great brands they carry. EK Success Brands including Martha Stewart Crafts and Jolee’s Jewels, Crayola, and Celebrate It just to name a few. We found everything needed to bring my Dream Tree to life.

It was late when we returned home but I was anxious to get the tree set up. The tree is a 6 foot Northern pine made by Celebrate It.  The tree comes in three pieces not including the tree stand. Each piece was labeled with a number and the light connections are color-coded to help, too.

An upside down view of the tree base with built in tree stand.

First step, add the feet to the stand. Second, add layer 2, fluff the branches and plug it into the base. Third step, add the top, fluff and plug it into the second layer. Now plug the tree into the wall outlet and Viola! In less than 15 minutes, the tree is ready to decorate.

Assembled tree ready to decorate!

My previous tree involved matching color-coded branches to the “trunk” of the tree. It was frustrating when they popped out while fluffing the branches or adding the strings of lights. I am very pleased with how easy this new tree is to assemble.

Michaels has many great holidays ideas and tons of inspiration. Don’t miss Michaels Look Book to get some ideas for your own Dream Tree. And to save money, don’t miss the discounts!

Next up for my Dream Tree is an idea for the tree skirt. I’ll keep you posted on my progress. Keep your eyes open for another post detailing some ideas you might like to use, too! Next week there will be an official Dream Tree Reveal. Stay connected with Michaels on Facebook or Pinterest.
